About the Toilet Archive
Welcome to the Toilet Archive.
This page is managed by Patrick Perdue of PdAudio.net.
'What is the Toilet archive?' Basically, it's a central repository for the output of bunch of bored, geeky audiophiles running around the world recording toilets with binaural, or at least, stereo microphones. The goal is to have the world's largest royalty free toilet library, though we still haven't quite figured out why we're doing this.
'Why would anyone want to do that?' Dunno, really, it's just something to do.
Every toilet sounds different, and no two flushes are ever exactly the same. So, why not record them?
All recorded toilets on this page are royalty free. So, if you need a bunch of high quality toilet samples for whatever reason, you've come to the right place!
All files are encoded using Ogg Vorbis at an average bitrate of 180 KBPS. If you can't play ogg media, try Winamp.
All waves are still available, but due to bandwidth and space restrictions, we haven't posted them here.
Toilets recorded at Patrick Perdue's house
The following toilets were recorded at Patrick Perdue's house
- upstairs toilet recorded under normal conditions with a set of Radio Shack binaural microphones. This is a modern American toilet with a narrow pipeline.
- upstairs toilet, tank prospective the same toilet with the microphones actually pointing down inside the toilet tank with the lid off.
- unstopping the upstairs toilet demonstrating the narrowness of the pipeline. This was recorded in February 2002 as I was using a plunger to unstop the upstairs toilet. There is, unfortunately, a slight bit of microphone handling noise on this one, since I was holding the Audio Technica ATR-25 in one hand and operating the plunger with the other. Many bad noises for you.
- downstairs toilet the toilet in my studio. This toilet is from the 60's, and has a much wider pipeline, and a bigger tank to go with it.
- downstairs toilet, tank prospective recorded with the mics pointing down inside the toilet tank with the lid off.
- downstairs toilet, overflow pipe recorded with the microphones actually shoved into the top of the overflow pipe inside the toilet tank. This will give you a good idea of what it sounds like to be on the other end of a toilet flush.
Other toilets recorded by Patrick Perdue
Here are some other toilets Patrick has recorded.
The next six toilets were recorded at Patrick's grandmother's office building with a set of MiniGearLabs electret condenser mics, and are the only standard public toilet recordings we currently have. There is a bit of fan noise from the ventalation system on these recordings.
'I did what I could', said Patrick.
Now, some more residential toilets I've recorded.
Other toilet submissions
Here are some toilets that were sent to us.

We want your toilets!
To make this archive as comprehensive as possible, we are looking for more toilets.
All submissions must meet the following requirements:
- All toilets must be recorded at at least 44.100 KHZ, 16-bit stereo. We don't like 8-bit, mono, or 22,050 KHZ crap!
- You must record with a decent set of stereo microphones pointed toward the bowl of the toilet if at all possible.
We are especially looking for non-American toilets.
If you would like to submit your toilet to the PdAudio.net toilet archive, send an email to Toilets@PdAudio.net We don't mind large attachments, either.
